CSI: Sizani Combined - Adopt-a-Teacher

Many of you may have seen the article in the North Coast Courier last week, regarding the crisis faced by Sizani Combined School. The article can be read, here.

Through our Community Social Investment (CSI) arm, Simbithi is intimately involved with Sizani; having partnered with the school during our first year of participation in the Partners for Possibility programme. During his year of partnership with the school, our former Director Paul Sparks was instrumental in the establishment of the Sizani Dream Trust. The trust looks after a specific set of achievable outcomes and priority list of items pertaining to the school. It is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (221-836 NPO).

As Sizani finds itself in a difficult situation, we are appealing to residents to consider donating to the Sizani Trust, and assist principal Mrs. N July and her learners. Should the school not manage to raise the required funds, Sizani faces three critical problems:

  1. Teachers’ workloads will increase significantly, to account for the loss in resources.
  2. The Grade 2 class will have to be combined, leaving one teacher with 94 learners in a single classroom.
  3. The learners would be forced to forfeit their library time; which has been become an integral part of the curriculum – book and movie reviews, literacy programmes and creative writing are all done out of the library.

Mrs. July has come up with an ‘Adopt-a-Teacher’ campaign, in an attempt to retain the teaching resources for the school. If you would like more information on the trust, or if you would like to partner with Mrs. July and Sizani, please visit the school’s website – http://sizaniprimaryschool.co.za/sizans-dream/ or contact the school directly: 032-551 5190.
